Planning Your Future in the Age of AI?

Here’s the Brutal Truth.
We’re all talking about “future-proofing” our careers right now. AI is everywhere — in our phones, our offices, our kitchens… probably plotting to run the neighbourhood bake sale next.

But while we try to champion the role of humans in an AI-driven world, there are a few uncomfortable truths we can’t ignore. And they all come back to one thing: why businesses exist in the first place.

1️⃣ Businesses are here for ROI, not to give us jobs.
It’s a cold reality — companies don’t exist to keep us employed. They exist to make money. If AI can produce a better, faster, cheaper product or service… it’s going to win. Every time.

2️⃣ People love convenience.
If AI makes life easier, we’ll use it — even for things we could do ourselves. Over time, we’ll rely on it for everything from writing emails to diagnosing problems. Think about how many of us now “Google” symptoms before calling a doctor — AI will be that, but on steroids.

3️⃣ AI has no empathy — and that’s okay (for most businesses).
AI can’t truly “get” human experience. No empathy. No gut instinct. No lived wisdom. It will, at best, give you a serviceable, average answer. But if that “average” comes with huge cost savings, CEOs will still choose it. Let’s be honest — how many companies you deal with today give you truly exceptional service? One in ten? One in a hundred?

So where does that leave us?

We have to accept that AI adoption will be driven not by ideals, but by profit, convenience, and efficiency. And that means if we want to stay relevant, we must adapt faster than the tech itself.

That doesn’t mean fighting AI. It means learning how to use it better than anyone else. It means focusing on the skills AI can’t replicate — creativity, emotional intelligence, complex problem-solving, leadership, trust-building.

The bottom line? Progress is often driven by human weakness and greed — but it can also be shaped by human vision and ethics. Which side of that equation you end up on will depend on the choices you make today.
